INEGI's competences in the area of Tribology featured in Manutenção magazine
19 August 2019 In an article recently published in Manutenção magazine - available HERE - a group of experts from INEGI evaluated the importance of lubricant and geometry in gear efficiency.
The work focuses on the problem of power loss from gears, assuming that it is possible to obtain considerable decreases in dissipated energy. The authors concluded that "both the lubricant used and gear geometry play a very important role in gear efficiency."
By combining the two elements, they experienced low torque losses at 74% lower, and at higher speeds about 47% lower. This breakdown in energy dissipation translates into efficiency gains of 0.5 to 1%, and further promotes longer gear and lubricant longevity.
