Expansion of INEGI's headquarters inaugurated
03 October 2023The inauguration of the expansion of INEGI's building, that took place yesterday, October 2nd, drew around a hundred people to see the over 410 m2 of laboratory infrastructure and 585 m2 of engineering areas that resulted from the expansion.
It was António Cunha, President of CCDR-N, who, alongside Alcibíades Paulo Guedes, President of the Board of Directors of INEGI, unveiled the plaque commemorating the inauguration. During his speech, he highlighted the consolidated role of the Institute in the National Scientific and Technological System, and growing capacity to respond as a technological partner of the national industrial fabric.
Also Filipe Araújo, Vice-President of Porto City Council and Councilor for the Environment and Climate Transition, Innovation and Digital Transition, was present and highlighted the importance of INEGI as an innovation agent based in Porto, boosting the business fabric of Porto. North and employing more than 270 people.
The total investment in expanding the facilities, which resulted in a total space of 9,267 m2, was around 2.2 million euros and included co-financing of 1.3 million euros, through the Technological Infrastructures (IT) measure of the Northern Region - North 2020 Program Interface Centers. As a Technological Interface Center (CIT), INEGI counts on co-financing from the North 2020 Program, the Innovation, Technology Transfer and Circular Economy Fund (FITEC) and the INTERFACE Program, for the execution of this strategic plan.
The occasion was also marked by the public recognition of INEGI's two new honorary associates, António Torres Marques and Artur Santos Silva. Both are distinguished by their extensive civic activity and contributions to the academic, scientific and political ecosystems, and leave a significant legacy in the progress and success of INEGI. They join a list of honorees that includes Albertino Santana, Jorge Sampaio, Luís Valente de Oliveira, and Rui Guimarães.
