INEGI and Tecmacal bring automation and digitalization technologies to the footwear industry

12 April 2021
The "traditional" label no longer serves the footwear industry, which today is also looking for new technological solutions, smart, flexible, and connected, to manufacture faster, cleaner and more economically.

To answer this need, INEGI and Tecmacal joined forces to develop a new equipment for the deposition of glue on insoles. The completely automated operation, digitized and equipped with precision technology, will replace the traditional alternatives, which until now were manual or only semi-automatic.

The introduction of artificial vision and sensing technologies in production environments will contribute to improve the quality of the final product, as well as to the rapid adaptation to new production series.

"The innovative approach favors a faster, more efficient and economical production", explains Ana Pereira, responsible for the project at INEGI. "The controlled deposition of the glue is based on the synchronized control between the image acquisition system, which works in time and the glue deposition system, in order to reduce the occurrence of errors and the waste of resources ”.

This solution is based on the automation of production systems, having a high potential for application also in the textile and leather goods sector.

At this stage, says the person in charge, "the laboratory system is already in operation, and we are finalizing the design of the final prototype machine".

The R&D project InSoleTech - POCI-01-0247-FEDER-038470, is co-financed by the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (PO CI), through Portugal 2020 and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
