INEGI reinforces laboratory and experimental infrastructure with expansion of facilities

During this year, INEGI will carry out a project to adapt and expand its facilities, which includes the creation of an additional 410 square meters of laboratory infrastructure and 585 square meters of engineering areas. The total investment in the expansion of the facilities is around 2.2 million euros and has a co-financing of 1.3 million euros, through the measure Technological Infrastructures (IT) of the North Region - Interface Centers of the North 2020 Program.

"The creation of new capacities based on laboratory and experimental infrastructure, as well as the organic growth of human resources, naturally requires an expansion of the laboratory and engineering area. We believe that this step, together with the others that make up our strategic plan, will be decisive for reinforce INEGI's role as an agent that promotes scientific and technological innovation in the coming years", stresses Alcibíades Guedes, President of INEGI's Board of Directors.

This growth project in terms of infrastructures is in line with the strategic investment plan initiated in 2018, and which will continue until the end of 2025, which foresees an additional investment in the order of 10 M€ in updating and strengthening laboratory and experimental facilities, in the reinforcement and creation of new scientific and technological competences, in the promotion of internationalization, and in the reinforcement of the structure and processes of business development and promotion of innovation.

As a Technological Interface Center (CIT), INEGI is co-financed by the Norte 2020 Program, the Innovation Fund, Technology Transfer and Circular Economy (FITEC) and the INTERFACE Program, for the execution of this strategic plan.
